Our “Conversations in Wine” are a range of events that can be provided at additional cost. Each conversation has been created to offer guests a variety of different experiences ranging from a basic introduction to the region and to wine tasting to more advanced discussions about the complexities of Bordeaux wines. Provided exclusively for you and your party, you can either choose one or you can take a package of all the conversations to ensure you leave with a really thorough understanding of wine-making (and drinking!) in the region.
Hosted by John Mitra who has extensive experience in wines and has a diploma from the Wines & Spirits Education Trust in London.
St Emilion Introduction
A personal introduction to St Emilion wines and wine tasting, the best vineyards to visit and the best places to taste and buy wines. Includes an initiation into the art of wine tasting including a glass of 3 different wines from the region including a Grand Cru.
Will ensure you are able to take full advantage of your stay and allow you to get up to speed with the fundamentals of the world of wine tasting. Most importantly you can visit the chateaux and not feel intimidated by the “experts” when you go tasting and buying wine!
St Emilion & its satellites – an insider’s guide
A detailed explanation of the region known as the Right Bank, centered on St Emilion but includes Pomerol home to the world’s most expensive wine, Petrus, and the regions of Puisseguin, Lussac, Fronsac and Castillon.
Your conversation will provide an insiders perspective on the region that has been built up through years of research and a network of contacts that really know and understand the region. Armed with this knowledge you will be able to have more informed conversations with the vineyard owners and the tradesmen and women the work in the region.
Includes a tasting of three Grand Cru Classe wines.
Left Bank or Right Bank – a battle of the wine greats
The never-ending debate as to which is the greater wine region; the Cabernet-dominated Left Bank or the Merlot-dominated Right Bank; will not be resolved by this conversation but after it you will have a better understanding of how, and why, the two regions have gone down different paths of viticulture. You will also understand and get to taste the impact this has had on the style of wines from each side.
Includes a tasting of two St Emilion Grand Cru and two Troisieme Cru from the Left Bank.
Bordeaux – where is the real value wine?
Bordeaux is famed for its exquisite but expensive Premiers Cru wines some costing thousands of Euros for a single bottle. The question is – are they worth it?
This conversation will introduce you to some of the less well-known vineyards and regions that have less cache but some would say offer better value for money. In particular there will be a tasting of wines across several price brackets and from different regions so that you can make your own mind up with the help of the insight of the owner.
Food and wine pairing
Everyone knows the classics – white wine with fish, red wine with beef and port with blue cheese but this conversation will challenge some of these preconceptions. We will reveal some totally different and surprising pairings that you can try on friends and relatives when you get home and point you in the direction of some others that you might like to try.
